A Double PhD is a doctoral program in collaboration with foreign universities and research institutions. It may start by personal initiative, or part of international initiatives like Unite!, MSCA-DN, CSC.

Why we care

  • Incoming joint PhDs are considered in the distribution of the FFO
  • Joint PhDs and cumulative PhD mobility periods longer than six months (considering all mobilities for the PhD student, conferences included) are considered in the Politecnico algorithm for allocating PhD grants

What are we talking about

  • The joint PhDs that matter formalized collaborations between universities:
  • The student is formally supervised by two advisors, one per institution
  • The doctoral degree is awared by both universities (usually with two separate awards)
  • The doctoral student prepares only one thesis, that is defended once - depending on the agreement (see later)
  • The student has to follow the guidelines and constraints (e.g., publications, courses) of both universities

How to proceed

The procedure and the constraints are different for INCOMING PhDs and for OUTGOING PhDs. Please refer to the dedicated pages.
